Invoice Payment Terms
Payment terms explain when and how a customer should pay. Clear terms reduce ambiguity and help both parties plan cash flow.
Common payment periods
Due on receipt requests prompt payment. Net 15 and Net 30 generally set deadlines 15 or 30 calendar days from the relevant invoice date unless the agreement says otherwise.
Use an exact due date
Showing a date alongside shorthand terms makes the deadline easier to understand.
Describe payment methods
Provide only the instructions needed for accepted methods and confirm that account details are accurate.
Agree before invoicing
Terms work best when included in the proposal or contract, not introduced for the first time on the invoice.
Put it into practice
Use a suitable consulting invoice template, or follow the complete invoice creation guide.
